Procrastination Perks

Writer: Laura Lyn DonahueLaura Lyn Donahue

It’s taken me almost 12 hours to get to this. All day I’ve been thinking, “You’ve got to write. When’re you gonna write? The day is getting away from you.“ All true and here it is 10:30pm and I’m in bed writing my entry on my phone.

Today consisted of various tasks, almost all a culmination of procrastination...not foreign to me. I do it often...especially before trips.

It it takes me forever to pack. I do pride myself in packing lightly but, boy, it takes a lot of work and sometimes I end up just throwing everything in because I get sick of trying to sort it all out so I can streamline.

I’ve been packing for two trips in a row, two completely different settings but similar temps. I put off vacuuming Scout’s hair out of my car, waited until today to go to Costco and we are leaving in the morning.

And, instead of writing this morning, I thought, “Ahh. I’ll do it after Costco.” Then I got a notice that school was letting out early because of storms...which never came but we have a bunch of snow days left unused. So why not let the kids out early? Tomorrow would have been better tho because Spring Break starts Saturday.

What ive decided is that there’s a part of me that thrives on the last minute prep. I think it’s probably true for a lot of people. I’m good at organizing and preparing but sometimes I shoot it all to the wind and let it stack up.

I‘m packed (almost). My car is clean. All of the Costco finds are stacked in my car and I’m too tired to do anything else...except get this last word in before I crash.

Procrastination has its perks but I’m not sure if those perks won the day or just exhausted me.

No matter. I’m outta here tomorrow. I love Trips. Maybe one day I’ll get the packing down to a science and get everything else done ahead of time...

Oh, wait. That’s the old me. New, almost 50 me does what I want and I make it work somehow...maybe not perfecto. Done none the less.

Speaking of done. I’m done. Night.
